Director • The Clark Sports Center
The Position
The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of The Clark Sports Center and is responsible for developing and implementing organizational strategies for the successful fulfillment of the mission.  The Director reports to the Executive Director and to the President of The Clark Foundation.

Responsibilities
The Director of The Clark Sports Center is responsible for maintaining financial stability; strategic direction; program quality; community relations; staffing quality; training; facilities; operations; and data systems.  In addition, the Director represents The Clark Sports Center and The Clark Foundation to the community and must therefore adhere to the highest ethical and moral standards.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership through the articulation of the vision and mission of the Center to staff, members, and external constituencies.
  • Maintain a strong focus on program quality, safety, customer service, and member support.
  • Maintain short-term and long-term strategic, marketing, membership and community outreach plans.
  • Manage the annual operations plans, program offerings, and goals of the Center.
  • Oversee the budgeting process as well as the reporting requirements of the Center.
  • Lead efforts to set up systems to track the use, content and quality of the core programs.
  • Assess current trends and consider whether and when to offer new program offerings that will complement the core program as well as provide additional revenue streams.
  • Maintain the high quality facilities and grounds of the Center and its longer term needs.
  • Provide a clear system for open communication, effective team building, staff development and training across the entire organization.
  • Review and ensure that the systems and administrative procedures are state of the art.
  • Ensure the highest ethical standards and legality of all of the Center’s operations.
  • Work closely with the staff and with the President and Executive Director of The Clark Foundation. 
  • Facilitate collaborative, cooperative relationships with the community and local institutions.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a leader with administrative and operational competencies.
  • Experience in building successful infrastructure in a large complex organization.
  • Experience as an accomplished leader with proven leadership skills, significant program and operational knowledge in recreation, social service, or educational fields.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred (i.e. in recreational or nonprofit management).

Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • A passion for the vision of The Clark Sports Center and the ability to translate this into reality.
  • Strategic planning skills and experience.
  • Significant successful experience working with programs in the areas of recreation, education or a related field, with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Demonstrable, successful accomplishments as a leader, with the skills and personal experience to manage, mentor, and train staff.
  • Very good judgment that will inspire confidence and respect from employees, members, and the community, in relation to programmatic matters, personnel management, and external relations.
  • Experience overseeing a complex physical plant and extensive playing fields.
  • The knowledge and ability to use budgets to provide close fiscal leadership and manage complex organizational, programmatic, and facility priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, writing and speaking ability with every level of the Center’s many constituencies: members (parents and children), community organizations and leaders and to the Board of Directors.
