Lifeguard Training

American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Blended Learning Course 

Monday, April 1–Friday, April 5, 2024
8:30am–2:30pm, daily.

Members and Non-Members are welcome. Blended Learning is a course that requires at home online course completion (approximately 6 hours to be completed before the first class) and in person class sessions. Class Capacity: Maximum of 10 Participants (Must have at least 4 participants to run the course)

  • Member Price: $325.00 (includes a $50.00 non-refundable deposit)
  • Non- Member Price: $375.00 (includes a $50.00 non-refundable deposit)

Register online by March 22, 2024.

Following the registration closure, participants will be emailed class instructions, required waivers and the link to the online portion of the course on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. All online lessons must be completed by the first class (Monday, April 1, 2024) and proof of completion must be provided.

There are additional guidelines that will be followed for this course:

  • Participants 15-18 years of age and Non-Members cannot use the rest of the facility without purchasing a Guest Day Pass.
  • Participants under 18 must change in the Girls and Boys Locker rooms. Participants that are 18 and out of high school must use the Men’s and Women’s Locker rooms. 

Please bring proof of age (must be 15), participants online class completion certificate (digital or printed) and completed waivers to the first class. Passports, driver’s license and birth certificates are acceptable forms of ID.

All participants must complete all online lessons and pass the prerequisite swim skills in order to continue the course.

Course prerequisites to participate in the Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) course:

  • Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the Lifeguarding course.
  • Successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations.
    • *Prerequisite 1 – Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

      • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 350 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed).

      • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the leg.

      • Swim 200 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.

    • *Prerequisite 2 – Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:

      • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).

      • Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

      • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface

      • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

 

    • *Prerequisite 3 -Complete an underwater swim.
      • Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 – 7 feet of water
      • Resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards

To pass the course the participants must attend all classes, show competency in all skills and pass the written tests with a score of 80% or better. Please bring a swimsuit, a couple towels, and a lunch to each class
