Adventure Program Open Summer Positions
The Adventure Programs is currently looking for seasonal staff for this up coming summer. Current positions available are Day Camp Instructors and Wilderness Instructors. Day Camp Instructors
The Day Camp Instructor serves as a lead, assistant or co-instructor during summer day camps which includes rope courses, adventure trips and team leadership programs.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate (21 or older preferred).
- Experience in Adventure Education as participant (instructor also preferred).
- Current CPR, Wilderness First Aid (WFR preferred) and Lifeguard certifications (or ability to attain).
- Experience working with youth & adults (Education in the field preferred).
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record, (experience driving twelve-passenger vans preferred).
- Ability to make sound safe decisions.
Responsibilities
- Assist with course planning.
- Coordinate preparation, including purchase of food, organization of equipment, and reviewing forms.
- Manage and work within summer camps budget.
- Assist with day planning and acting out the plans for the day.
- Occasionally attend an overnight or consecutive overnight.
- Drive 12 passenger vans. (21 and older)
- Acts as a support instructor for standard ropes course, rock climbing and team building programs.
- Attend all Clark Sports Center staff trainings and meetings.
- Enforce all Clark Sports Center and Adventure Programs rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as determined by the Adventure Director or other Clark Sports Center Directors.
Wilderness Instructors
The Wilderness Instructor serves as a lead, assistant or co-instructor on wilderness, backcountry expeditions and overnight camps.
Qualifications
- High School graduate (21 or older preferred).
- Instructor and/or participant experience in Adventure Education, including and not limited to wilderness land and water-based expeditions and teambuilding activities.
- Current CPR, Wilderness First Aid (WFR preferred) and Lifeguard certifications (or ability to attain).
- New York State guide's licenses for camping and canoeing (or ability to attain).
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; experience driving twelve-passenger vans.
- Experience working with youth and adults.
- Ability to make sound, safe decisions.
Responsibilities
- Assist with course planning.
- Coordinate preparation, including purchase of food, organization of equipment, and review of forms.
- Act as lead, assistant or co-instructor for extended backcountry trips.
- Issue and maintain equipment.
- Teach backcountry skills (canoeing, leave-no-trace, map and compass, survival, cooking, etc.)
- Participate in staff trainings and meetings.
- Be available to drive van shuttles, pick up supplies, etc.
- Enforce all Clark Sports Center and Adventure Programs rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as determined by the Adventure Director or other Clark Sports Center Directors.
