Our 7th annual race will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020. The race starts at 8:00am.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Race the Lake has been rescheduled.
The 2020 Race the Lake Marathon, ½ Marathon and 5K, previously scheduled for Saturday, June 6, in Cooperstown, will be rescheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2020.
This very difficult decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the event does not contribute to the spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such a large event in June given ongoing guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials. We take the safety and health of our runners, staff, and community very seriously – it is our number one priority.
Please understand that the greatest factor in this process has been, and continues to be, your safety and well-being. Because of the rapid way this has developed, we didn’t feel it was prudent to cancel the event much further in advance than this. We wanted to wait as long as possible to make sure we were making the most informed decision, while not waiting too long and making it impossible for you to change your plans.
We understand that this postponement may disrupt your plans to participate on the rescheduled date. Therefore, we have suspended our “no refund” policy. Additionally, we are providing you with a couple alternative options to choose from.
We are asking for your help, cooperation and patience through this unprecedented process. In that spirit, please review the options below carefully. Actions may be required on your part.
Here is a summary of your options:
- Participate on the postponement date. No action is required on your part!
- Get a refund. Race the Lake typically has a no refund policy; however, we understand that these are extraordinary circumstances. We will refund your registration fee, minus the processing fee. Your refund will be processed after the selection deadline of June 1, at 12:00 PM.
- One-time complimentary transfer to 2021. You will be able to register for the 2021 race (Saturday, June 5, 2021) at no additional charge. You will receive instructions on how to do this prior to next year’s race.
- Donate your registration fee. Events like Race the Lake are expensive and significant costs have been incurred already. We are a non-profit organization that operates year-round community outreach initiatives and generates economic activity for our community. Generous donations like these will help to keep our mission running through this unprecedented challenge.
REMINDER: You must make your selection by June 1, 2020, at 12:00 PM. Based on your selection, you may receive further communication after the selection deadline.
We promise to stay in communication throughout this process and certainly invite your questions, but please be patient as we navigate things at this time. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner as you have come to expect, but as you can imagine the email and call volume is very high. We will also post regular updates on our social media channels so please consider following us there if you don’t already.
Thank you for your support. Please stay safe and look out for each other. We must stay apart for now so that we can come together like never before.
Hang in there!
